For 5 years, METRO has ranked #1 across all grocers on Seafood Progress for its continued efforts to sell sustainably sourced seafood. 

METRO is the only major Canadian grocer to:

  • Label all its private brand seafood as wild or farmed.
  • Label all its private brand seafood with the true origin, name and harvest method. 
  • Publish the sourcing details of all seafood it sells through its Freshness You Can Trace website and the Ocean Disclosure Project
  • Prioritize sourcing skipjack tuna that was caught sustainably using selective fishing methods.

Additionally, METRO is one of few grocers to consistently report how much of its seafood meets its Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy

Too few grocers walk the talk when it comes to sustainable sourcing. SeaChoice encourages METRO to keep up the good work on sourcing sustainable seafood, and urges the grocer to apply the same tenacity toward their commitment to sell socially responsible seafood!
