Shrimp & Brews
An event celebrating local Chedabucto Bay trap-caught shrimp together with local beers, on November 20, 2008.
Halifax –SeaChoice, Canada’s national sustainable seafood program and the Garrison Brewery are proud to host the inaugural Shrimp & Brews, an evening of celebration of local Chedabucto Bay trap-caught shrimp together with local beers!
This event features Chef Renée Lavallée of The Five Fishermen Restaurant, Chef Alan Crosby of White Point Beach Resort, Chef Dennis Johnston of FID Cuisine, and Chef Shaun Zwarun of DesBarres Manor Inn, serving up succulent recipe samples of fresh sustainably caught Atlantic cold-water shrimp from Chedabucto Bay, Nova Scotia.
Fishermen in Chedabucto Bay trap-fish for northern shrimp just a few miles from shore. These high quality shrimp support a valuable small-scale community fishery. Nova Scotia prides itself in high-quality local food and in supporting local farmers. Our seafood deserves similar celebration. Few places in the world are as lucky to have a sustainable trap shrimp fishery right in their backyard.

SeaChoice has seen a tremendous amount of support for this sustainable seafood event, with a VIP reception including food industry and fishing industry members, government, related organizations, and media in the afternoon. A sold out public event with shrimp, beer, music, and good conversation continues into the evening.

We are excited to bring together the freshly trap-caught shrimp and local beer for the inaugural Nova Scotian “Shrimp & Brews” event. Promotion of this product into the local market offers great opportunities to profile yet another Nova Scotian delicacy, promote sustainable economic development in our coastal communities, and enjoy the taste of Nova Scotia.
